1950. Rural Alabama. Cotton harvest season. It's a crucial weekend for the Honeydripper Lounge and its owner, piano player Tyrone "Pine Top" Purvis. It's much money to which the liquor, the chicken man, and the landlord. Tyrone is willing to do anything to attract young recruits pickers and the base near the bar and make the competition Touissant, owner of local rival.

After Bertha Mae dismiss his regular talent, blues singer, Tyrone announces to his Maceo partner has hired the famous guitar player Guitar Sam for a special performance only: the idea is to fill the club and, incidentally, save it.

The big day arrives and Tyrone will wait for the train, but Guitar Sam is not on board. Forced to find a solution, reached an agreement with the sheriff to release Sonny, a kid who had appeared at the club after getting off a freight car, saying he played as well as Guitar Sam.

Tyrone cleans Sonny up and dress. His plan is to pass the young guitar picker as Guitar Sam just long enough to turn off the lights and run off with cash box. When Sonny takes the stage and launches into his first solo guitar Tyrone will learn if the lights are off for Honeydripper or if his luck has changed: it may be another man saved by rock n 'roll.

The Honeydripper star cast of blues bar is composed by Danny Glover, Charles S. Dutton, Lisa Gay Hamilton, Stacy Keach, Mary Steenburgen, Yaya DaCosta and Sean Patrick Thomas as well as musicians as Keb 'Mo', Dr. Mable John and Gary Clark Jr., a new talent that makes her film debut in the role of Sonny. COMMENTS

Music critics have spent much ink trying to decide which song should be regarded as "the first rock song and roll. " I always thought that the beginning of any power, whether athletic, artistic, religious or political, can be the starting point for an interesting story. Honeydripper bar blues set in Harmony, Alabama, a small town on a crossroads in 1950. Blues singers still sit in front of the cafeteria and play for a few cents on the jukebox is great bands like Louis Jordan, stars, country and rock pioneers like Hank Williams, and crooners like Perry Como, and the most listened to live music is the gospel. But technology is about to erupt. The guitarist, previously relegated to second place in the bands, is about to be placed under the spotlight. When the guitar can mourn and howl at the same volume as the winds or piano, everything changed.
In the film, Gary Clark Jr., a young prodigy of Austin, Texas, plays Sonny Blake, evoking the spirit of Ike Turner, T Bone Walker, Johnny Watson and many others who pushed for this kind of music when the first electric guitars. Danny Glover's Tyrone "Pinetop" Purvis, a piano boogie-woogie roving that has settled and purchased the Honeydripper Lounge to offer music that has been his life so far. He is haunted by his past and turns a blind eye to the future, but suddenly you see a handsome guy with a guitar that has no hole in the center ...
Almost all the songs are a compendium of tension and harmony. They have fought many battles with music without uttering a word. One of them took place in the early fifties between guitar and piano. Fats Domino and Jerry Lee Lewis did everything they could to endure, but when Chuck Berry started playing piano chords on his guitar and do the duck over the stage, the course of popular music changed. Even the saxophone, the heartbreaking soul of rhythm and blues, became the background and the white rock, disappeared altogether. Many musicians
neighborhood and jazz musicians used the same phrase to describe the golden rule allowed into their world: "If you can touch, you can stay." Electric blues bands from Chicago made famous by its competitors take the stage on the basis of music making with bowling. In Honeydripper blues bar, Tyrone "Pinetop" Purvis must decide whether the new music is a threat or an opportunity of a lifetime. Tension, harmony, potential violence, if that rate is added, no drama. And that's rock and roll.
blues bar The Honeydripper movie about transformations: a second chance to an old blues musician, brilliant takeoff of a young guitarist, and the rise of the rock and roll. To give life the history of this musical metamorphosis, was key to capture the spirit of mid-century. Honeydripper
blues bar, the sixteenth film by John Sayles, and the thirteenth produced by Maggie Renzi, his eternal partner, was filmed in Greenville, Georgiana, Anniston and Midway, four locations in southern Alabama in the fall of 2006.
Honeydripper bar blues was born out of fascination that John Sayles has for the genesis of rock n 'roll. "There was a key moment in the rhythm and blues, blues, gospel, jazz and country were merged to create the rock n 'roll," says the director. "The big change came with the birth of the guitar supply. Previously, the piano was the king. It sounded much more than an acoustic guitar. But suddenly, a poor boy like Sonny could travel with a cheap electric guitar and a portable amplifier and shake the walls of the bars with their chords. There were many 'Guitar Sam' and 'Guitar Slim' at that time. The musicians were moving a lot and listened to what others did. Georgiana Hank Williams era. Jimmy Swaggart and Jerry Lee Lewis would slip into clubs for blacks. Chuck Berry was famous for recreating the rhythm of percussion of the piano with his guitar. Black and white soldiers filled the bars with live music. Having an army base close could mean salvation for the owner of a bar. " Nothing
playback is difficult to capture the immediacy of live music when the actors sing or play on playback. The filmmaker John Sayles wanted the music to be free and fresh. Apart from Danny Glover, who plays the piano, but it was very convincing, "playing" Sonny Leland pieces (you see the hands of Henderson Huggins in the foreground), all other actors / musicians played live, and even improvised.

The first is married to Inger (Birgitte Federspiel) and has two young daughters, but now is Inger pregnant and expect the third. Johannes is a former theology student, having been imbued in their studies (especially Kierkegaard), and consistently identified with the figure of Jesus Christ, is regarded by all as a madman. The third, Anders, is in love with the daughter of a tailor, uncompromising leader of a rival religious sector. This circumstance revitalizes the discord that has always existed between the two families, since no looks very happy for their children marry. Inger triggers delivery of all the tensions built up in this small community.

Dreyer, the great mystic of film history

Dreyer, described by many as "one of the greatest mystics in the history of cinema" , gives his works an "aura." Watching your film, Ordet especially difficult to imagine a shoot: with typical meal breaks, the distribution of snacks among the extras, breaks between takes, the "click-clack" of the count, the team got worse mundane ... Indeed, Dreyer's films seem to not have been done by anyone, but has fallen from the sky directly, we feel like voyeur looking the lives of others, feeling reflected, for it is so interesting. Dreyer's film incorporates the resources of cinema and theater, to create a psychological realism beyond realism and naturalism. The characters and situations transcend reality to take us to a realm where anything is possible. For that uses a staging in which sees each frame as a picture. Replaces interior decorated by real, devoid of any ornamental element, extending each sequence to create unique atmospheres.

Dreyer presents this movie as a stream of spirituality, surrounding a mystical atmosphere that is interested in trying, above all, the insecurity of the individual to the vagaries of faith and reason.

House Culture Valencina - 20:30
Director: Zhang Yimou Duration: 104 minutes
Cast: Ken Takakura (Gou-ichi Takata), Shinobu Terajima (Rie Takata), Kiichi Nakai (Ken-ichi Takata, vocals), Li Jiamin (Li Jiamin), Qiu Lin (Lingo ), Jiang Wen (Jasmine), Ken Nakamoto (Electric), Li Bin Li (Director).

History: The most important trip in the life of a man through the heart of China.
When Takata Gou-ichi (Takakura Ken) learns that his son Ken-ichi (Kiichi Nakai), which is estranged, is seriously ill, rushed to his side. But Ken-ichi refuses to see him. Rie (Shinobu Terajima), wife of Ken-ichi, gives Takata a videotape to help you return to meet his son. The mention of a promise on the tape submitted by Takata in a quest to settle a debt of love with your child. During the journey he meets people from all walks, discover human kindness and a sense of family he thought he had lost long ago. Sometimes you have to travel far (riding alone thousands of miles) to find the way home ...

Comment: Zhang Yimou is away for a moment of movie swords and Chinese legends, its more epic-tinged cinematography, but it does not even an inch of emotion in their stories. With some reminiscences to "A true story" of the director David Lynch takes us on a long road of redemption, this time between father and son. Yimou thus becomes the path of lyricism, small stories with a huge emotional charge. We face a drama with many moments and characters that emanate tenderness, humanity. Back to the land of "The Road Home" or "Not One Less" to cite two examples. The serious face invades Ken Takakura film footage until Yimou is the way to defeat the cold. There are a few memorable scenes: the banquet, the night that the child goes missing, the representation in prison ... Yimou values that make one of the most significant filmmakers and recommended for routine and movie lovers who talks about feelings and emotions. This 85 th
CineClub imaginary projection has the added value of being able to enjoy a movie that has not been released in Spain in commercial theaters.

His request for asylum is denied and deported to Turkey where he is incarcerated. Lotte travels to Turkey in a desperate attempt to free her.

round trips cross

After the bombing against the wall and documentary Crossing the Bridge: The Sound of Istanbul , Fatih Akin, German director of Turkish origin, is back with Across this long dialogue between East and West, this time in a more diverse work, for six voices, which rises to the fore the sensitivity outlined under the strength of his previous film.

Award for Best Screenplay at the Cannes Film Festival, means a coherent Akin step forward in the difficult time of return to get behind the scenes after that impact. And so, as has been recognized and is reflected in the tape, taking a greater distance, with a range of characters that expand and oxygenate the intentions of the story, leaving the visceral, the immediacy of the implications of his earlier biographical . Sale this disturbing nerve, but in this serenity still flows underground violence, injustice and uprooting, a polyphonic narrative that keeps track of characters physically and emotionally displaced between Germany and Turkey, on the highway to meet.

Sometimes we travel looking for someone who in turn is also seeking and we just find ourselves. Need to travel to get to know more about who we are, whom we had not set or who thought we would never know, and just discovering that they like us. Something like this happens to the characters of the last film to date one of Europe's most exciting young filmmakers.

HISTORY

Salma Zidane (Hiam Abbass), a widow of 45 years living in a small Palestinian village in the West Bank, declared war on the Israeli defense minister (Doron TAVORY) that has been building a house on the Green Line that divides Israel from the occupied territories, and borders the field Salma lemon. The Israeli army is soon to declare that trees threaten the security minister and ordered to be uprooted. Salma's son lives in America and their daughters are away, but she decides to fight for their trees. He embarks on a journey law that will take up the Supreme Court of Israel. Hire a young Palestinian lawyer, Ziad Daud (Ali Suliman), who will face an army of military lawyers who enjoy government support. Ziad, 34, divorced from a Russian whom he met while studying law in Moscow, falls in love with Salma. But their relationship is complicated and dangerous because the Palestinian widows can not do as they please, and less love, let alone a younger man. Salma realize that you have the strength to move forward in spite of the pressures facing both sides, Israeli and Palestinian. Battle to save the trees his father planted 50 years ago trees that have drawn blood, sweat and tears, as the entire region. Not permit the court to satisfy a security requirement absurd.

Across the field of lemon, Mira Navon (LIPAZ-MICHAEL RONA), the wife of the minister, also going through a major change. After being the perfect wife for many years, despite having a new home and the appointment of her husband, not happy. Know that time passes and begins to be convinced that there must be something more in life. The struggle carried out by his new neighbor, which does not know, forces him to see her husband in a new light and for the first time, do not react as expected.

Lemon Tree is a story of struggle. The fight to protect what is one, the struggle over principles, humanity, earth, history, years of blood, through the struggle of a woman to save her lemon trees. It is a story of loneliness, the loneliness of everyone in this region and its surroundings.

COMMENT

The lemon is a strong, brave adventures that speaks less of a unique case of an entire people: basically, what the film intends to gently but with a critical perspective that does not save your own darts and others, is an undisguised reflection on the Israeli occupation of Palestinian territories.

And it does with the ways of a powerful portrait of a woman, sometimes splits into two (the minister's wife will soon understand the views of neighboring crushed).

The film beautifully illustrates the unusual talent of making intelligent and entertaining film from a current issue. This drama, with the Israeli-Palestinian schism as a backdrop, is generously sprinkled with irony, anger and pure optimism. The director Eran Riklis (The Syrian Bride) chooses a story near the border and reduces its political components to reach the human level, played with an award-winning security by the Palestinian Hiam Abbass.

But the film is even more so. From the main conflict approach, many issues arise: the crisis in the relationships, the relevance of roots in the construction of a life project, the importance of the age difference in a relationship, the female perspective conflicts, ...

A way of life based on deep knowledge of a particular territory arid. These wisdoms adaptive survive in a fragile scenario, where the traditional ways of life are drifting towards the fields of folklore or to new forms of economy such as construction and tourism.
Wrapped in a steady wind, people, landscapes and animals are actually a single cone. COMMENT

Guirre Following earlier productions, also shot in Fuerteventura, and Berrocal, fearful of the consequences of
fire that ravaged much of the province of Huelva, Daniel Lagares and his colleagues are back with a film full of humanity, where no can understand human beings without their interconnection with the natural environment. A role shared by men, women and animals that live together in an openly hostile space. Lagares
hits the camera (and microphone) in the middle of the lives of each other, to offer, with a magnificent picture, a portrait anthropological ways of life that can be almost incomprehensible. With a seemingly realistic aseptic life is drawing strokes that shape a collage to the rhythm of the seasons and animal life processes.

She (Marketa Irglova) has just arrived in the city, to get ahead, selling roses to passers who walk through the bustling center, his passion for piano. Their stories will cross one night and the meeting will create new compositions and a growing passion and quiet.

COMMENT
This is not a great film aesthetic and intellectual approaches. On the contrary, to enjoy it, to taste its true essence is just go with the sentimental proposal that makes its director and screenwriter, John Carney. And here is where lies its success, it is not easy to tell a story so simple and while you trap and be convincing. This is achieved by printing the film a realistic tone dialing, where Dublin's streets become the perfect setting that houses the comings and goings of these two characters, of these two lonely people who find in music a way to express their feelings. Carney
uses a number of credible resources to make this simple story, shot in digital format, which adds freshness and proximity, has semi-professional actors (both from the world of music), the songs are well embedded in The film shows, giving the film a great soundtrack. Once
is, above all, without hiding it at any time, a love story as universal as the same pop, a small tile of veiled feelings that arise between two people in the shade (or memory) of two separate lovers, as in Desiring Love Wong Kar-wai, told with tact, restraint dramatic and infinite affection for the characters. Test
good reception of the film have been the audience awards at festivals in Sundance and Dublin (2007).

" a war not a war until a brother kills his brother" .

After the First World War, France and Italy were much interested in not rebuild the Austro-Hungarian Empire (so dear to Luis G. Berlanga), while Europe was fear that, in perceiving the political map of the Balkans that largely had been the cause of world war, the story does not take a long time to repeat (as it was anyway, and worse, but for other reasons .) Georges Clemenceau, the 'Tigre', President of the French Republic, supported by Orlando, the Italian president, had the 'brilliant' idea of creating a new state where they had room for all those nations liberated from the Ottoman Empire's collapse barely kept its independence to the greed of Austria or Russia, believing that a strong and united state could better cope with these threats, and even serve as a powerful ally West in the area. Yugoslavia was born in 1918, as the home of all Slavs (to the hundreds of thousands who were not, nobody asked them), and planted the seed of one of the most entrenched and vicious conflicts in recent years.

"War is not a war until a brother kills brother." This chilling phrase pronounce Marko, a former poet and political newcomer, helpless in his wheelchair, after her brother was beaten to death in the middle of a fight in the former Yugoslavia and during the war that led to the settlement of the country.

Underground, a film absolutely essential to understand the narrative cinema of the genius of the European scene is Kusturica, he says, while we review the history of Yugoslavia in the fifty years from the end of the Second World War to the outbreak of conflict in the Balkans in the nineties the story of Marko and Petar, inspired by real characters from history Yugoslav Tito era, thieves and fighters during the Nazi occupation of the country began in 1941, and Natalija, an actress in the making in that same time and Petar lover, and the evolution of this three-way relationship over time, all passed through continuous and delicious dance and music scenes of the cinema wind Kusturica ( Mesecina , piece of track), weddings celebrated with music, food and unlimited alcohol, abundant touches of humor, surrealism and absurdity, and the usual winks director moviegoers.

Marko, because of her love for Natalija, takes advantage of circumstances to hide Petar and many others, including his own brother, Jovan, in the huge, huge basement of his grandfather (it to a shielded), and manages to keep them there after the war lying to them about the end of the course and getting engaged in the manufacture of weapons with which he trades and reaches a large fortune. For decades
all of them remain locked in the basement while Marko takes the glory of victory against the Germans and rises quickly through the ranks of Tito's communist Yugoslavia.

Chance, alcohol and a chimpanzee will ally for years later by Petar order to go outside and see that things have not changed since its closure (the fact that nothing else wants to go out to stop a film set where they filmed a movie specifically about his life and presumed death in the Second World War, with actors and extras dressed as German soldiers, sponsored by Marko, who has created an aura of heroism around Petar, which for remaining country is dead, all of which provides some moments of comedy in many carats), and it will be for him even to the time when war breaks out it will seal the death certificate for Yugoslavia, as he continues to believe that fighting against the fascists (confusion apparently intended by the author, establishing an analogy between the Nazis and the war fighters recently, much given them to ethnic cleansing).

The film is so rich that any attempt to outline an exercise becomes rather awkward, because the story line presented here is enhanced by the wonderful music of Goran Bregovic , powerful images, Marko attempts to manipulate the reality of those hiding in the basement, pretending alarms and bombings, the thinly veiled symbolism of many passages (Christ spent the end of the movie or the animals that appear, geese, horses, cats, recurring throughout the filmography of director), the cruelty of others (the bombing of the zoo) and the compelling magic of the most (the paths through the sewers, dances, music of trombones and trumpets ), but above all, archival images Kusturica used to illustrate the various parties set out in the narrative (1 ª - War, 2 ª - The Cold War and 3 - War , which underline the sad history of the country since its invention), sometimes introducing their own players with digital technology in their own historical documents: images of cities occupied by the Nazis in 1941 and the people celebrating in the streets arm in the air, crumbling cities, death and destruction everywhere, images of the Tito era, with parades, uniforms, happy and contented people, and finally, the visual documents of Marshal's death, world leaders attending the funeral (Ceausescu, Brezhnev, Hussein of Jordan, Arafat, Helmut Schmitt The Duke of Edinburgh, etc.), and a whole series of images precursor disaster looming in the not too distant future, all accompanied by the immortal chords Lili Marleen, the song 'informal' War World, sung by all armies in all languages, and that led to glory Marlene Dietrich.

But the film is so rich and complex it is impossible to catalog it in any of the categories set: a drama with comedy parts in action, but also a musical, a political film , and above all, a story that shows nostalgia and bitterness. What emerges from it is a reflection in which you can see two main issues. First, the criticism of the war as a means of conflict resolution, but also its acceptance as a last means when all else has failed (Kusturica portrays himself as an operator of fire in a battery of artillery-fired end of the film), regretting, however, the consequences of the same: dead, broken families, destroyed, torn countries and lack of happiness and well being for generations. Secondly, the film exudes nostalgia for the homeland disappeared by Yugoslavia as it was between 1918 and the nineties, a rupture of that responsibility to the fractious republics of Slovenia, Croatia and Bosnia.
