Music critics have spent much ink trying to decide which song should be regarded as "the first rock song and roll. " I always thought that the beginning of any power, whether athletic, artistic, religious or political, can be the starting point for an interesting story. Honeydripper bar blues set in Harmony, Alabama, a small town on a crossroads in 1950. Blues singers still sit in front of the cafeteria and play for a few cents on the jukebox is great bands like Louis Jordan, stars, country and rock pioneers like Hank Williams, and crooners like Perry Como, and the most listened to live music is the gospel. But technology is about to erupt. The guitarist, previously relegated to second place in the bands, is about to be placed under the spotlight. When the guitar can mourn and howl at the same volume as the winds or piano, everything changed.
In the film, Gary Clark Jr., a young prodigy of Austin, Texas, plays Sonny Blake, evoking the spirit of Ike Turner, T Bone Walker, Johnny Watson and many others who pushed for this kind of music when the first electric guitars. Danny Glover's Tyrone "Pinetop" Purvis, a piano boogie-woogie roving that has settled and purchased the Honeydripper Lounge to offer music that has been his life so far. He is haunted by his past and turns a blind eye to the future, but suddenly you see a handsome guy with a guitar that has no hole in the center ...
Almost all the songs are a compendium of tension and harmony. They have fought many battles with music without uttering a word. One of them took place in the early fifties between guitar and piano. Fats Domino and Jerry Lee Lewis did everything they could to endure, but when Chuck Berry started playing piano chords on his guitar and do the duck over the stage, the course of popular music changed. Even the saxophone, the heartbreaking soul of rhythm and blues, became the background and the white rock, disappeared altogether. Many musicians
neighborhood and jazz musicians used the same phrase to describe the golden rule allowed into their world: "If you can touch, you can stay." Electric blues bands from Chicago made famous by its competitors take the stage on the basis of music making with bowling. In Honeydripper blues bar, Tyrone "Pinetop" Purvis must decide whether the new music is a threat or an opportunity of a lifetime. Tension, harmony, potential violence, if that rate is added, no drama. And that's rock and roll.
blues bar The Honeydripper movie about transformations: a second chance to an old blues musician, brilliant takeoff of a young guitarist, and the rise of the rock and roll. To give life the history of this musical metamorphosis, was key to capture the spirit of mid-century. Honeydripper
blues bar, the sixteenth film by John Sayles, and the thirteenth produced by Maggie Renzi, his eternal partner, was filmed in Greenville, Georgiana, Anniston and Midway, four locations in southern Alabama in the fall of 2006.
Honeydripper bar blues was born out of fascination that John Sayles has for the genesis of rock n 'roll. "There was a key moment in the rhythm and blues, blues, gospel, jazz and country were merged to create the rock n 'roll," says the director. "The big change came with the birth of the guitar supply. Previously, the piano was the king. It sounded much more than an acoustic guitar. But suddenly, a poor boy like Sonny could travel with a cheap electric guitar and a portable amplifier and shake the walls of the bars with their chords. There were many 'Guitar Sam' and 'Guitar Slim' at that time. The musicians were moving a lot and listened to what others did. Georgiana Hank Williams era. Jimmy Swaggart and Jerry Lee Lewis would slip into clubs for blacks. Chuck Berry was famous for recreating the rhythm of percussion of the piano with his guitar. Black and white soldiers filled the bars with live music. Having an army base close could mean salvation for the owner of a bar. " Nothing
playback is difficult to capture the immediacy of live music when the actors sing or play on playback. The filmmaker John Sayles wanted the music to be free and fresh. Apart from Danny Glover, who plays the piano, but it was very convincing, "playing" Sonny Leland pieces (you see the hands of Henderson Huggins in the foreground), all other actors / musicians played live, and even improvised.
