When Takata Gou-ichi (Takakura Ken) learns that his son Ken-ichi (Kiichi Nakai), which is estranged, is seriously ill, rushed to his side. But Ken-ichi refuses to see him. Rie (Shinobu Terajima), wife of Ken-ichi, gives Takata a videotape to help you return to meet his son. The mention of a promise on the tape submitted by Takata in a quest to settle a debt of love with your child. During the journey he meets people from all walks, discover human kindness and a sense of family he thought he had lost long ago. Comment: Zhang Yimou is away for a moment of movie swords and Chinese legends, its more epic-tinged cinematography, but it does not even an inch of emotion in their stories. With some reminiscences to "A true story" of the director David Lynch takes us on a long road of redemption, this time between father and son. Yimou thus becomes the path of lyricism, small stories with a huge emotional charge. We face a drama with many moments and characters that emanate tenderness, humanity.
